  • 4 Cinnamon sticks (or 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon)
  • 4 Vanilla beans, split and scraped (or 4 teaspoons vanilla extract)
  • 2 Star anises (optional)
  • 2 cups Milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • 4 tsp Loose-leaf black tea or 4 black tea bags (optional)
  • Honey or other sweetener of choice (sugar or a sugar substitute)

Instructions

  1. Bring water to a boil in a small pot.
  2. Add cinnamon sticks and vanilla beans to the pot; cover and turn off the heat. If using ground cinnamon and vanilla extract, add them directly.
  3. Let the ingredients steep in hot water for about 10 minutes.
  4. If you prefer black tea in your milk tea, add it now and brew for an additional 3-5 minutes based on your desired strength.
  5. In a separate pot, heat the milk until warm but not boiling.
  6. Pour the cinnamon-vanilla infusion through a strainer into the warm milk to combine both mixtures.
  7. Add your choice of sweetener and stir well to incorporate everything.
