  • 1 (18.25 oz) Devil’s Food cake mix
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 (3.4 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 16 oz vanilla cake icing
  • Orange gel food coloring, to desired shade
  • Black edible sprinkles or black sugar sparkles, for garnish
  • Optional: black rope licorice pieces and candy eyes for spider decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, cold water, vegetable oil, eggs, and pudding mix. Beat on medium speed until thickened.
  3. Scoop 18 even portions of batter onto the prepared sheets.
  4. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes until spongy; let cool on a wire rack.
  5. Color the icing with orange gel food coloring.
  6. Spread icing between two cooled cakes to assemble.
  7. Decorate with black sprinkles and optional licorice legs and candy eyes.
